On 16th Nov 2022, the Commandant of Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre (BPOTC), Col Sudhir Pratap Singh formally closed the SN 14 United Nations Staff Officers' Course (UNSOC) which was commenced on 31st October 2022. Twenty student officers from Nepali Army and three international student officers from Bangladesh, Vietnam and Nigeria successfully completed this 13 days long course. The course intends to enhance knowledge and skills of participants on the generic tasks of various appointments in field missions, interaction with other components of UN system including various actors/stakeholders (humanitarian and development including NGO & INGOs), their scope and working ethics that the uniformed personnel should be aware of.
During the closing remarks, Col Singh congratulated all participants for successful completion of the course. He also highlighted on the transforming trends of peacekeeping operations for which the United Nations has introduced a multi-dimensional approach which has come with new challenges, especially in performance standards of military staff officers at the Force and Sector Headquarters. He further expressed his expectation that the course has enhanced participants' understanding of peacekeeping provided with the required knowledge and skills to serve as a competent Staff officer in peacekeeping missions.
